Thaumatophyllum ‘Soledad’; variegated,

is a rare and captivating hybrid that has garnered attention among plant enthusiasts for its distinctive and dynamic variegation patterns. This cultivar’s specimen exhibits a unique flecking pattern reminiscent of an ionizing nuclear spread, complemented by sectoral patterns of white and greyish-green hues.
As the leaves mature, the variegation becomes more pronounced, with emergent foliage displaying a non-existent coloration that intensifies into over time as it fades in. Once set it, the color well be an easily recognizable lime green, then yellow, ending off in a striking contrast of white. This variegation is heavily light intensive. Within my observation, the higher values of light that you can acclimate Thaumatophyllum Soledad to – the brighter in colors the variegation becomes. Alternatively, if you prefer a different colors on the spectrum of T. Soledad variegated, you can isolate that color by isolating the light value that causes response you are looking to capture in time.

Thaumatophyllum  ‘Soledad’; origins

This plant, being a whisper amongst the tongues of even avid plant collectors, is a true rarity and gem shrouded in mystery.
T. Soledad’, with its origins not widely documented – begin in the mists of the Thaumatophyllum Williamsii scandal.
Breed on a nursery intwined deep within the soil of Soledad, California in 1982 – a daughter and father duo (Dawn Hunter-Clark and Jerry Hunter) of “Rancho Soledad Nurseries” crossed Thaumatophyllum Lundii by Thaumatophyllum Williamsii.

Note: it is widely stated this is amongst the time – Stenolobum forms were passing as Williamsii. To the point being that, between the two, Stenolobum ‘was’ Williamsii, or, should it be said that Williamsii was a synonym for Stenolubum, at the time.  ‘Soledad’  care somewhat enigmatic, with its lineage not widely documented.

Formerly classified as a subgenus of Philodendron: Meconostigma. Since 2018, Meconostigma has gained elevated status, moving from under the Philodendron genus umbrella and creating its own separate genus classification known as Thaumatophyllum. Given its uncommon status, this plant offers a blend of beauty and botanical intrigue, making it a prized specimen amongst any plant collection.
